“Something Different” Sacher Cake

Last time I asked my Insta followers about recipes they would like to see on the blog. One of suggestions was Sacher Cake. And since this is the blog Bake Something Different, it is my job to add a personal note to every cake. The original Sacher Cake is made of rich chocolate sponge, covered with apricot jam and melted chocolate. I have already tried it (based on the original recipe from Hotel Sacher) and believe me, it is worth a try. You can get it in Sacher Cafe in Wien or Graz. And also indulge in amazing trip to […]

Strawberry Cream Cake

Strawberry Cream Cake! Fresh strawberries, pastry dough, vanilla cream, what could be better? Strawberry season is here and I prepared a delicious, strawberry version of a cream cake. I put some fresh strawberries on pastry dough, and strawberry jam on top. Because I try to avoid egg creams and I’m not a fan of gelatin, I prepared vanilla cream with vanilla pudding and sweet cream. The preparation of dessert will take you about 1 hour and a half, together with baking time. I suggest you cook the pudding a few hours before, so it has enough time to cool. The […]

Berry Layer Cake

This is a recipe for the tallest cake I’ve ever baked. I made it for my grandparents at their 50th wedding anniversary. To please as many guests as possible I picked a combination of vanilla and cocoa sponge, filled with two frostings with berries. So, this recipe will do for a cake with about 20 slices (diameter is 26 cm). But you can make a smaller cake, so you take only the half of the quantity of listed ingredients.   Ingredients Vanilla sponge 5 eggs 150 g sugar 200 g flour 15 g baking powder 10 g vanilla sugar 0,5 […]

So convenient when you have a lot of guests! Cake slices are made of vanilla sponge cake, cottage cheese frosting, and strawberry-raspberry jelly topping. Strawberry Cake Roll with Greek Yoghurt

Strawberry season continues and so do my strawberry recipes. This strawberry cake roll was created very quickly because I wanted to serve a dessert after lunch for our guests. Fortunately, it didn’t take more than an hour.  Strawberry Cake Roll is made with cocoa sponge, fresh strawberries, and Greek yogurt frosting. It is very refreshing and makes a wonderful spring dessert. The ingredients will be enough for one cake roll which can be cut into 12 pieces.  A piece of advice for making cake rolls: the sponge can be quite tricky and can be easily ripped or broken if you […]
