Want to bake something different for Easter? Nutella Bunnies are cute pastry filled with Nutella or some other chocolate/hazelnut spread, rolled in bunny shape. Do you remember the Nutella star that used to be so popular? Well, the preparation of bunnies is even simpler!
The preparation time together with dough rising and baking is about three hours. It is the best if you eat the bunnies the first day when they are fresh (and warm!).
Ingredients (for 12-14 bunnies)
- 600 g flour
- 15 g yeast powder
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 10 g vanilla sugar/tsp vanilla essence
- 1 tbsp rum
- 350 ml milk
- 50 g butter
- 1 egg
- 150 g Nutella
Mix dry ingredients: flour, yeast powder, sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt. Heat up milk and rum and melt butter in this mixture. Let cool. Pour it on the dry ingredients when lukewarm. Knead the dough. Cover it with clean kitchen towel and let rest for 1 hour.
Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll out each part in size of a rectangle that is at least 28 cm long and 3 mm thick. Cover the first rectangle with Nutella. Do not spread too much Nutella or you will have trouble shaping your bunnies.
Cover with the second rectangle. Stick the edges together with forks.
Cut long stripes and shape each into bunny as seen in picture.
Put the bunnies on the baking tray, covered with parchment paper. There should be a few cm between bunnies so they won’t stick together. Spread the bunnies with egg for golden glow.
Bake for 23 minutes on 180 degrees C.
