Chocolate Sponge Cake with Pears

Last weekend, me and my boyfriend were invited to lunch at my parents’, and it was appropriate for me to bring a dessert. I baked this simple, but delicious cake with pears. The best thing about it? It’s ready in an hour. Chocolate Sponge Cake with Pears is made of rich cocoa sponge, melted dark chocolate, and fresh pear slices.

  • 5 eggs
  • 160 g sugar + 2 tablespoons to cover the pears
  • 170 g flour
  • 50 ml oil
  • 15 g baking powder
  • 40 g cocoa powder
  • 100 g chocolate
  • 5 pears
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkle

Wash the pears, peel them and cut into thin slices. Cover them with sugar and set aside for some time.

Take a round baking tray with diameter of 26 cm. Grease it with butter and cover with some flour. Don’t neglects the edges.

Melt the chocolate. Whip the eggs together with sugar. Add flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and oil. Mix thoroughly. Turn on the oven and heat it to 180° C.

Take approximately two thirds of the mixture and pour it into baking tray. Cover with pear slices (use half of them).

Cover with melted chocolate.

Pour the rest of the sponge cake mixture on this.

Arrange the remaining pears on top.

Bake for about 30-35 minutes.

Before you serve the cake, you can sprinkle it with powdered sugar. The cake is best eaten a little bit warm when the chocolate is slightly melted, because it resembles a lava cake. Enjoy!
